TASKLY is my approach to designing a useful task management app for a performance-driven & professional user group. I developed TASKLY during my certified 6-month course UX Design with CareerFoundry.
The challenge was to design a fictional responsive web app, created from scratch to the polished design to help people plan, organize, share, and complete effectively their projects and tasks within a simple, easy and clear manner.
Methodology

Click Test

I used UsabilityHub and Invision for testing and Google Analytics and SurveyMonkey for evaluation.
Prototyping & Wireframing

I used Sketch and Invision for the design part.
Approach
I based my first MVP on competitor research followed by a user survey to procure viable data. Though my participants were a group of edgy urban professionals the outcome was rather conservative: Keep it simple, no fuss, minimalistic, please!
A task model and a customer experience map gave me insight unearthing the steps people take and the decisions they need to make. This method was very helpful to identify pain-points in advance.
Performing a card sorting session was particularly helpful in developing an effective information architecture. All three participants clearly distinguished between functionality and information. The results helped me to further refine my MVPs.
After having set up a Sitemap for my app, I began to sketch wireframes for the mobile, tablet and desktop version. With the help of these sketches, I was able to test and iterate user flows and navigation at an early stage.
Design
I chose bees as a leitmotif evoking teamwork, effectiveness and being well organized. A hexagon became an inspiration for the Logo recalling the shape of a honeycomb.
The colors were chosen by applying a triade scheme. All are in the spectrum of well-perceived colors for both genders, they feel adult and in particular, the blue shade communicates safety and reliability. The combination also had sufficient contrast in a Deuteranope Simulation.
I applied the concepts of responsive and mobile-first design.
